AN UNUSUAL 12-BORE 1865 PATENT TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1787,
30in. black powder only fine damascus barrels, rib engraved 'BENTLEY & PLAYFAIR. BIRMINGHAM', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 3/4 choke, some pitting, round action bar with recessed oval side panels, carved percussion fences, Scott patent toplever and spindle, patent no. 2752 of 1875, Purdey double bite, patent no. 1104 of 2nd May 1863, use number 2227, rebounding back-action locks, fine acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplates signed 'W. & C. SCOTT & SON', brushed finish, 15 1/4in. highly-figured stock, cast on for the left shoulder, including 1 1/8in. rubber recoil pad, weight 7lb. 3oz.
